I came to Cedar Coast with an open mind, not knowing what to expect and was really inspired by the work that was being undertaken and the vision and passions of the team there. I was warmly welcomed by all and quickly felt like a part of the Vargas family. Being a (relative) stranger to this part of the west coast and the country, I was really interested to learn more about the unique environment and various ecosystems on the station property and further into the island. The team there were so knowledgeable and eager to share their passion for the environment. Through helping out with tasks around the station and at the in-construction lodge, it was really interesting to see how the workings of a big project like this come together and how much hard work and dedication is input by all involved. With the station being so new, it was great to have an opportunity to leave a mark there in terms of helping to establish biodiversity monitoring programs that can engage groups of youth as well as putting some groundwork in on the property itself that will be there for years to come. I also got to learn new skills relating to construction and brush clearing. A great experience all up in a spectacular part of the west coast with some sweet people!
