Dan Hunter
Research Technician, Summer Student 2018
I am a 21-year-old student from Ottawa, Ontario. Currently, I am studying biology at the University of Victoria with a focus on ecology and evolution. I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to work as a research technician at the Cedar Coast Field Station this summer before going into the final year of my degree in the Fall. Apart from school, I love spending my spare time outdoors through hiking, backpacking and mountain biking.
Thus far, my experience at Cedar Coast has been extremely rewarding and enlightening. In addition to being able to do field work in the beautiful setting that is Clayoqout Sound, I have also been able to learn how an off-the-grid field station is maintained and run by all of the staff here at Cedar Coast. My time here has shown me the planning, hard work, and dedication that is required to create this awesome environment where learning and research can be done in fruitful and productive way.
I expect the second half of my time at Cedar Coast to be as fun, exciting, and filled with novel learning opportunities as the first.

Educational Assistant, Summer Student 2018
I am from Victoria, BC and am 21 years old. I am in my third year, studying biology at the University of Victoria, with a focus on marine biology. I was excited to be offered this position because I love being on and around the ocean and enjoy teaching youth.
My experience at Cedar Coast has been really exciting and rewarding thus far. During my first week, the extremely friendly and supportive CCFS team showed me a great diversity of the beautiful beaches and hikes on the island, including the amazing and renowned Ahous Bay. I had a blast hosting my first summer camp, for Surge Narrows school and have enjoyed learning about off-grid living and the important field work being done at the station. I look forward to the rest of my summer working for Cedar Coast Field Station, leading the remainder of Cedar Coast’s summer camps and exploring this island, through hikes and kayaking!
