The Cedar Coast Field Station is looking for a candidate that has an interest in education, ecology and place-based learning to work alongside our education coordinator and operations coordinator to both develop and run programs for visiting and in-house youth summer camps. The candidate will assist with other in-house monitoring projects and with general station tasks including but not limited to trail maintenance, cooking, cleaning and chopping firewood. The candidate will be provided with accommodations on site at the CCFS in a remote setting on Vargas Island, BC.
Position: Environmental Educator
The ideal candidate:
- a proven interest in ecology and sciences
- completion of some undergraduate science courses
- camp-counseling or education experience with youth
- experience and ability to live in an “off-grid” environment with limited facilities
- proven communication or facilitation experience (e.g. public speaking, performing arts)
- boating experience
- comfortable living in a communal and mixed-gender setting
Position details:
- designing educational programming.
- building or designing education programs using the natural environment (i.e. plant IDing for a guided hike).
- facilitating camps and education groups.
- leading educational programming.
- general station tasks: firewood, brushing, gardening, cooking, etc.
As this position is in part funded by Canada Summer Jobs you must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Dates: April – August, 2019 (flexible start and end dates, duration pending funding)
Wage: $14/hr for 35hr/week
Transportation between Tofino and Vargas Island provided;
Accommodations and dinners provided while at the station.
